Best of 2010

Looking back on 2010, I’ve realized that a lot of the music I’ve been listening to hasn’t actually been released in 2010. either that, or they were soundtracks of compilations that were re-released. That being said, here is the new music of 2010 that I’ve been listening to:

Heart of My Own—Basia Bulet. (Download: Heart of My Own)
Genre: Indie/Folk
This Canadian singer-songwriter is not someone I would normally listen to, but she has a voice that is incomparable to anyone else, and sets her apart
from the crowd. Oh, and my sister-in-law’s friend is touring in her band.

Blue Sky Noise—Circa Survive (Download: Glass Arrows)
Genre: Progressive Rock
This album got some flack in the reviews, but I will remain a Circa Survive fan no matter what.

Heaven is Whenever--- the Hold Steady (Download: We Can Get Together)
Genre: Indie-Rock
What isn’t great about this album? Everything from the cover art to the final song is worth the purchase. Even if you aren’t a fan of this band, you may become one.

Brothers—The Black Keys (Download: Everlasting Light)
Genre: Garage rock, blues rock
I’ve been listening to this band for a few years, after the suggestion from my brother and sister in law. This album has made them a tad more radio friendly than its predecessors, but still fan-friendly.

The Suburbs—The Arcade Fire (Download: the entire album!)
Genre: Indie Rock
It took me way to long to discover this album, mostly because I’ve never been a die-hard fan. I’ve always had their albums, but never appreciated them as much as I have this one. It’s an album that needs to be listened to in its entirety…and luckily for me, I have a lot of time on my hands during my Windsor-London trips.

Pink Friday—Nicki Minaj (Download: Roman’s Revenge)
Genre: Hip-hop, rap, pop
This album looks a little out of place on this list. Its made me appreciate this genre more. Minaj is the best rapper out there right now, and she’s made appearances in many singles this year. Its a fun album for getting ready to go out for the night.

High Violet: The National (Download: Terrible Love)
Genre: Indie Rock
This album isn’t even on my iPod yet, as it hasn’t made its way out of my car cd player. Its a fair assessment to say I enjoy it a little…
Listen to this while driving/walking at night.
